Clean home, clean mind. I want a space that is thoughtfully organized. I don't like having a lot of extras, and I want everything to have a function.
I'm open to being nomadic in my lifestyle. I want to live in many places and experience their textures. I want being at home to feel like I'm seeing the whole world.
Home is a reflection of who you are. I want my space to elevate me, and inspire me to keep going after my dreams.

I'm the perfect light fixture. I illuminate the space so that the rest of the furnishings can shine.Â

What's your biggest challenge when it comes to creating your ideal space?Â
There are so many decisions to make... I don't really know where to start. I'm overwhelmed!Â
I'm not totally confident in my own aesthetic. It's challenging for me to know if something will actually work in my space.Â
I can't imagine designing a space that everyone can agree to. It's hard to find a style that speaks to everyone I live with.Â
I'm not sure how to create a space I love within my budget. Furniture and furnishing are so expensive!
I'm not really into the planning process. I'd rather hand off the reins entirely, tbh.Â

Which quote about design MOST speaks to you?
"There are two things that make a room timeless: a sense of history and a piece of the future." — Charlotte MossÂ
"Architecture is really about well-being. I think that people want to feel good in a space." — Zaha Hadid
"Form follows function—that has been misunderstood. Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union." — Frank Lloyd WrightÂ
"A room should never allow the eye to settle in one place. It should smile at you and create fantasy." — Juan Montoya

You did it! You made your dream space into a reality. What kind of music do you play in your amazing new space to chill out?
Classical music to activate my higher thinking and refresh my mind.
I'd play a tuning fork and fill the space up with good vibes.
Relaxing hip-hop sounds: both upbeat and chill at the same time. Who knows? I might start dancing any second.
I'm gonna listen to jazz, pour myself my favorite beverage, finally kick my feet up, and feel victorious.Â

A unique piece of artwork that lights up the room. I want a really beautiful piece that sparks conversation and stirs my soul.
A really great couch that's super-soft, and kind of ginormous. Perfect for long hang-dates and #lounge life. Life's about to get cozy.
An antique art-deco mirror with gold flourishes. It's a rare piece that you can't really find any more. The mirror elevates and opens up the space.
An impeccably designed shelving unit that's a work of art in it's own right. I have never felt so put together!Â

Kyoto, Japan. I want to experience the simple, yet elegant approach to space. To see the attention to detail in person, and get inspired by the thoughtfulness of the design.Â

Your Style is… Glam!
You're a leader, a go-getter, and a powerhouse. A glamorous interior design style will have you feeling like a million bucks!
The glam style includes jewel-toned colors and luxe textiles like leather, suede, and velvet. The glam style showcases your appreciation for the finer things. This style is polished and posh yet tasteful.
Your space could even channel a little bit of old Hollywood Glam for an abode that makes you feel like the star that you are.
The glam style doesn't have to be gaudy. Instead, think of adding thoughtful touches that subtly elevate your space. The quality of materials is important to you, so wherever possible think about quality over quantity.
Because you’re passionate and driven by nature, it's important for you that your space highlights your unique passions. Look for objects that remind you of your goals, dreams, and vision for the world.
You tend not to be super "traditional" and you like to create your own rules. That said, antique or historical touches here and there can allow you to create a space that is grand, sweeping, and utterly unique. This means that Traditional interior design styles might speak to you as well.
"Glamour only radiates if there is a sublime courage & bravery within: glamour is like the moon; it only shines because the sun is there." — C. JoyBell C.
Here Are 3 Design Tips You Don't Want to Miss
1. Start from the bottom, now you're here
If you're not sure where to start when it comes to designing a room...think about the floor. Does your space already have nice hardwood floors? Is an intricately designed rug calling out to you? Or perhaps an area rug made from a natural fibre?
It's key to start with the floor so that you don't limit your designs from the get-go. If you first decide you want a large sofa, then everything else in the space is going to have to fit around that large item.
Thinking about how your floor will give you inspiration for the rest of the room. You could pull colors for the rest of the design from a Persian rug, for instance. Or go with neutral tones that will allow you to play with pops of color in the furniture.
2. Get to know your space
If you've just moved into a new space, take some time to sit with it in a bare state. Really drink in the space and pay attention to it. This will show you how you naturally want to use the space and move through it.
If you've already lived in your space for a long time, begin your new design by clearing things out. Give yourself the feeling of a blank slate.
The word "decorating" can be tricky in interior design, because it suggests we need to keep adding layers, or putting elements on top of elements. But if you get to know your space when it's more clear...you're going to see more opportunities for flow.
When it comes to design...take your time, instead of trying to do everything at once. That way you can continue to add touches that you really love... that work together as a whole.
3. Get moody with a mood board
Now that you know your design personality, start creating a moodboard of spaces you totally love. Collect images of interiors that make your heart sing. Pinterest is great for this, of course.
You can even call to mind spaces and places you've visited in the past that you've totally loved. Add those to your idea collection.
Once you've gathered lots of designs you really love...take a little time to assess your style. What are the common threads? What kind of pieces or colors are showing up in all of the images?
Then list all the words you'd use to describe your personal interior design style. The key to interior design you really adore is having it really express your personal aesthetic.
Meet the Woman Behind the Curtain...
Hey style-savvy friend! I'm Julie Benson, interior designer, proud mom of two, and certified sommelier.
I hail from Denmark, the home of hygge. I studied architecture and design at the Royal Danish Academy.
My work has been featured in Elle Decor, Luxe Interiors, and New York Magazine's top 100 designers list.
I became a sommelier because something about wine spoke to me. Over time I realized it was the concept of terroir. That a grape holds the essence of the place it's from. I am thoroughly obsessed with designing environments that capture a distinct essence of place.
Like a great bottle of wine, a perfectly designed room can totally uplift your day-to-day.
My speciality is designing organic environments that make you feel completely at home. I love helping people create spaces that capture their true essence.

Your Style Is... Eclectic Bohemian
Your free-spirit loves buzzy social settings and setting the trend. Your space needs to reflect your playful, quick-witted charm.
The boho design style is like a quilt of design influences...mixing patterns and objects to create a space that's totally unique. Think of creating a space that makes you feel like traveling. That gives people an experience of sightseeing.
Because you see life as an adventure, display items from travels, from nature, from moments of day-to-day magic. A boho space can feature your treasure-trove of memories.
A key element of the boho stylish layering patterns and textures. Materials like rattan, jute, bamboo, and colorful textiles make up this artistic look. Also, for you, plants need to be everywhere.
This layered aesthetic is expansive and boisterous, just like you.
Think of your home as a place to host soirees with the most interesting of guests.

Your Style Is... Scandinavian Chic
You're warm, kind, and community-minded. A space inspired by Nordic sensibilities will make you feel safe, sound, and serene.
Your superpower is supporting others, and you're a rock for your friends and loved ones.
Your home needs to be a haven of connection, comfort, and love for both you and your people. A space that expresses your gentle heart.
The Danish concept of "hygge" (meaning comfortable conviviality or absolutely coziness) has your name written all over it.
This softness is paired with a minimal aesthetic. And punctuated by light-colored wood.
The Scandinavian interior design style features neutral colors, pastels, and soft textures. The Scandinavian palette also plays with creams, white, tan, and beige.
Although the color palette is muted, textures can create variety and interest in this design style. Because you feel things deeply, soft and luscious textures will totally light you up.
All in all, your interior design style is inviting, warm, and casually elegant.
“You cannot hygge if you are in a hurry or stressed out. . . the art of creating intimacy cannot be bought by anything but time, interest and engagement in the people around you.” — Meik Wiking, The Little Book of Hygge: The Danish Way to Live Well

Your Style Is… Modern Minimalist
You're whip smart and you've got a great attention to detail. Your ideal space is impeccably organized and full of thoughtful details.
The minimal style is defined by clean lines and shapes. There isn't much out of place in a minimalist home...and each object is selected with care and attention.
Similarly, a modern style of décor relies on clean lines and square shapes. With neutral colors, inventive lighting, and the occasional pop of color.
Since you love to plan and create structures, you take pleasure in systemizing your living space. Modular furniture styles work well for you, because you want to get the most out of each of your possessions. And the last thing you want is a cluttered space.
Instead of adding lots of extras to your space, you want everything to play a purpose, and to enhance your day-to-day life. "Quality over quantity" is your design motto.
When it comes to the interior design process, Marie Kondo is a thought leader to inspire your minimal style.
"Keep only those things that speak to your heart. Then take the plunge and discard all the rest. By doing this, you can reset your life and embark on a new lifestyle." – Marie Kondo
