  Heracles!

  The most famous of the Greek heroes, Heracles (commonly spelled Hercules by the Romans) was known for his strength and tenacity in the face of adversity. As a son of Zeus, he was always up for a challenge. Baby Heracles defeated the serpents the Goddess Hera sent to his crib, and later conquered the 12 labours imposed on him for his misdeeds. To be successful on your heroic health journey, you will need to embrace Heracles' inner strengths of innovation and perseverance. You likely work best alone, so set up systems of measurable goals and rewards that give you flexibility in HOW to accomplish your health endeavors. Don’t be afraid to ask for expert help on the less interesting details of the plan, because once you have the specifics of what needs to be accomplished, you will be capable of achieving every goal set for your health journey. YOU set the goals, YOU take ownership of the journey, and YOU will succeed in your ascension; just as Heracles ascended to earn his spot as a god of Olympus!

  Atalanta!

  Unknown to many, the swift-footed Atalanta was a virgin huntress and priestess of Artemis (goddess of wildlife and the hunt). Left for dead by her father who wanted a son, she is said to have been suckled and raised by a bear, giving her a strong independent spirit. As an adult, she was repeatedly urged to marry. In true Atalanta fashion, she made her own “rules” and agreed to marry any suitor that could beat her in a foot race. Many a man fell to her spear after being defeated by this priestess, but alas one man proved cunning enough to win her hand through matching her mental and physical prowess! Like Atalanta, you will want to stick to your convictions and maintain independence in your heroic health journey. Your success will most likely come from creating your OWN goals and rewards systems based on the parameters set by your health coaches. A worthy coach on your health journey will help you occasionally with the logistics, but YOU know what’s best for your happiness where you are going. Don’t let distractions slow you down in this race; because when you follow through, neither Atalanta nor you will ever have to settle for less than the BEST for you!
• 3.
  Achilles!

  Son of the sea nymph Thetis and the mortal King Peleus, Achilles was the mightiest Greek of the Trojan War. Dipped into the river Styx as a child, Achilles became invulnerable except for the points on his heels that bear his namesake to this day. He led the Greeks in taking 12 cities around Troy and the Greeks were only slowed by a pestilence sent down by the god Apollo in response to his priest Chryses’ prayers for taking his daughter Chryseis. Achilles sensed this insult to Apollo and regained his favor by convincing Agamemnon to return the slave Chryseis to her father (even though Agamemnon took Achilles’ slave Briseis as compensation). Like Achilles, you must rely on logical decision-making and diplomacy to help you succeed on your heroic health journey, so that you aren't blinded by personal quarrels and interests. Focus on clearly defined objectives, adapt when things aren’t going your way, and welcome those that will help you “do the right thing.” Many will not understand your methods, so beware getting nicked by personal assaults along the way. Achilles triumphed as a leader on the battlefield through his bravery and was rewarded by the gods for remaining humble to Apollo. To embody Achilles, you must stay even-tempered in the face of adversity, and the world will remember your name!

  Penthesilea!

  Penthesilea was known throughout ancient Greece for her bravery, skill and wisdom. A conscientious problem-solver, Amazonian queen, and daughter of Ares; she came to the aid of the Trojan army in response to Achilles and the Greeks ransacking 12 cities surrounding Troy. She internalized this insult to Troy and fearlessly led a symbolic 12 Amazon warriors to assist them in battle against the Greeks. The demigoddess Penthesilea had seen the destruction that Achilles had wrought upon the Trojans, and was so tenacious that she both confronted and ultimately killed the so-called greatest of all the Greek warriors! Like Penthesilea, you are fearless and loyal in the face of insurmountable odds. Those who attempt to defeat you will succumb to your blade, so never doubt your capabilities. Become Penthesilea by honing your attention to detail and facing adversity in your heroic health journey. Remain confident in your strengths while considering outside criticisms...then you shall succeed as the unsung heroine that you were born to be!
• 5.
  Perseus!

  Son of the god Zeus and the mortal Princess Danae, Perseus was the most considerate of all the Greek heroes. As a baby, he was locked in a wooden box with his mother and cast into the ocean to die by her father Acrisius. The pair was fortunate enough to be retrieved by a fisherman who then gave them refuge until Perseus had grown into a man. Whether it was helping his mother to evade suitors, partnering up with Athena and Hermes to retrieve Medusa’s head, or making a deal with King Cepheus to save Andromeda from the sea monster; Perseus repeatedly kept up his end of the bargain. He was dutiful in his endeavors, always staying loyal to the cause and dependable to follow through. You should embody Perseus by taking time to think about “how” to go about your heroic health journey, but do so with more haste than you are usually comfortable to meet deadlines needed for your goals. The confidence and social recognition you seek will come in forms of praise and appreciation as long as you stay focused on the task at hand, rather than feeling the need to take on too many things at once. Remain true to both your values and your loved ones, and you will always earn your prize!
• 6.
  Persephone!

  Adorned by many names such as “The Venerable One” and “The Great Goddess”, Persephone ruled as the balancing force of the underworld alongside Hades. She was taken from gathering flowers in a meadow with her maidens by Hades, and her mother Demeter was so displeased that she stopped tending the crops of the world. Harmonious by nature, Persephone used her new position to help several heroes on their voyages through the underworld; such as Orpheus and Heracles. Zeus seemingly approved of the union between Hades and Persephone, but to appease Demeter and ensure the survival of man, he offered a compromise. Persephone would be returned to Demeter for two thirds of the year, so that the world would again come alive and bear harvests; then for one third of the year she would rule the underworld with Hades. Like Persephone, you may feel like your circumstances have chosen you rather than you choosing them; however, your compassion for those around you and desire to be happy in your social circle will motivate you to create “win-win” scenarios on your heroic health journey. Work with your coach and support networks to figure out how to best accomplish your goals, and your value to yourself and those around you will surely be noticed!

  Dionysus!

  Mostly known as the god of wine, Dionysus started as a demigod and life of the party! He was the son of the god Zeus and the mortal woman, Semele, who died as part of a jealous Hera’s ruse. Fetal Dionysus was plucked from the burning Semele’s belly and gestated in the leg of Zeus, thus becoming the only demigod to be born from a god. Soon after his godly birth, Hera once again attacked Dionysus by having him ripped apart by titans. Zeus and Rhea reassembled Dionysus and had him raised safely by mountain nymphs. From then on, Dionysus was a god among the people, walking step in step with his followers as they drank wine. Indulging with him in moderation brought them divine ecstasy, while being gluttonous would descend them into a maddening rage. Like Dionysus, you are motivated by social esteem and personal expression; so you’ll want to share your health journey with friends and family for the praise and encouragement you desire. Just be careful not to exaggerate your plans or progresses, as excess often leads to ruin with this personality type. Practicing moderation in your lifestyle and maintaining a strong support structure will make your health journey an adventure that even Dionysus would tip his glass to!

  Helen of Troy!

  Few realize that the most beautiful woman of Greek legend, Helen of Troy, was in fact a demigoddess. Born of Zeus (in the form of a swan) and either the mortal woman Leda or the goddess Nemesis (in the form of a goose), Helen was said to have been birthed from an egg. In her youth, Helen was pursued by multiple kings and ultimately chose Menelaus of Sparta as her husband. Later, Helen was promised to Paris (son of King Priam of Troy) when Aphrodite bribed him to choose her as the fairest goddess attending the wedding of King Peleus and the goddess Thetis. Paris collecting Helen as payment for his choice is what then sparked the Trojan War. Like Helen, you must be aware that your presence is one that garnishes significant attention; and know that such visibility can be useful in your heroic health journey. Helen had a natural ability to mobilize entire countries in her name; while, for you, making your health journey public will both inspire others and motivate you through supportive praises. Corral the energies around you (from coaches, friends, family, etc.) to invigorate you on your path to success. Avoid the distractions of popularity, because being known has its perks, but only as long as it works in your favor!
