You're in the First Trimester!
You’re in the First Trimester! You're bursting with excitement to tell the world the good news about your doula business and to start helping moms & babies! You’re ready to get started with helping clients, but are feeling a little overwhelmed. You know you need a website and maybe some business cards, but don't know the best way to make either of them? You're starting to realize that clients aren't just going to land in your lap. You need to go out there and get them!Your big challenge? Knowing where to begin. You're not sure where to start - where do you need to spend your time, energy and money to start actually working as a doula?"(pregnancy) is like the beginning of all things - wonder, hope, a dream of possiblities" — Eda LeShanHere's your customized plan on how to start getting clients as a new doula:1. Start your social media accounts and website ASAP. The sooner you start these, the sooner you have somewhere to send potential clients and birth professionals who you connect with while networking. Having a web presence makes you “legit” and it’s vital that people can find you online. Even if a former client shares a glowing recommendation, that person is probably going to check you out online before contacting you.2. Network. Network. Network. Reaching out to other local birth professionals is VITAL to getting more clients. Don't just contact OBs and midwives, reach out to other businesses with a similar clientele like maternity photographers, other doulas, acupuncturists, prenatal fitness/yoga instructors, etc.3. Facebook Groups. Join any local Facebook Groups for birthworkers in your area (if one doesn’t exist - create one!) Also, join any local “mom groups”. Be conscious of the groups rules in terms of promoting yourself. But, you can start to establish yourself as a local expert by answering questions with evidence-based information and a positive attitude.
