You’re a leader dedicated to getting things done. You make the list, check it twice and move on to the next. You’re all about taking action and making things happen. Details and decisions matter in a big way. Problems were meant to be solved, to-dos were meant to get done. Check, check, and check. Organization, efficiency and execution matter.Your CEO mantra is “Let’s get to work!”Remember – You don’t have to do everything yourself. Delegation and trust are key as you engage your team. Share your expectations, but also acknowledge the fact that everyone won’t do things exactly the way you would. Get comfortable with releasing control. Questions to consider as you level up your leadership: • How do I most want to invest my energy in the business?• What value am I uniquely positioned to add as the CEO?• Which activities can I delegate to someone else? • What is the highest, best use of my time and expertise right now?4 Ways to Create Epic Results with Your Team#1 Embrace talent – Make a point to identify the natural gifts that each of your team members can bring to the table along with their knowledge and skills before you hire. Be intentional about supplementing the areas that aren’t in your wheelhouse as you bring others on-board. Do your best to align job responsibilities with the things that individuals organically do well so they can contribute with confidence and clarity. Position everyone (including yourself) to do energizing, fulfilling work while establishing clear, measurable goals. No role is perfect, but it’s important to help your team members tap their talents. As you move from solo-to-CEO (or more senior leadership opportunities), it’s likewise important that you double down to focus in your zone of genius. Your days of doing #AllTheThings are numbered as you grow your business; leverage your trusted support and scale your reach.#2 Build rapport – Get to know your peeps. This will require you to be open, communicative and vulnerable. There’s nothing wrong with small talk (we all start somewhere), however, make a point to take a real interest in the people you’ll enlist to bring your vision to life. Ask questions and be willing to answer them. Broker introductions to other team members so everyone is clear about roles and who will likely partner. Ask for feedback directly as your hires (contractors, part-time/full-time, whatever) settle in to find out how things are going. Don’t always be so quick to delegate the follow-up to someone else on the team, especially when you initially start hiring your crew.#3 Center the mission – Share your core vision and why it’s important with your team so they can buy-in to get the job done. Explain where your interests come from and articulate the opportunities that you see for collective contributions. You can protect your intellectual property in a number of ways as you hire (e.g. non-disclosure agreements, contracts, etc. – consult an attorney for guidance). However, do your part to keep your team members “in the loop” when it comes to what you’re doing as the leader and more importantly, why you’re doing it. This insight will enable your team members to better understand your motivations as well as your expectations. As a result, you can create a forum for open dialogue because the relevant context will be in place while building the trust requisite for delegation. As a CEO, you’ll need to be able to release many of the things that you’ve traditionally owned to focus on the things that only you can do.#4 Use the 'F' word often – As in Fun. Frivolity. Fabulosity. Create a positive environment where people enjoy themselves while adding value and getting things done. Trust and believe that a little bit of levity can go a long way. See what naturally evolves as you shape the culture of your organization (yes, you must actively curate the culture as the CEO). Every team has a vibe, for better or worse. Make your team a place that sees and honors individuals for what they can give, but also for who they actually are. You can be responsible, focused, relational, inspired, innovative and still create a workplace where people choose to invest their time and talent every single day.Let Me Introduce MyselfHey there, I’m La Tondra Murray if we haven't already met.If you’re ready to create epic results with your lean team, I can help.
