Organization
As an Organizational Leader, you have the ability to look wider and deeper, and to bring an advanced skillset to your department through decision-making and strategic thinking. Just like Professor X himself, you have the mindset, the talent, the love of people and the courage and desire to drive and influence change.Motivational- By understanding the basic needs of employees, you are able to motivate an individual to work hard at achieving his or her goals.Big Picture-You have a clear purpose that comes to life through consistent and deliberate behaviors and expect the same from your staff.Innovative-Developing systems is the foundation of every great leader and you know the importance of pulling new ideas from everyone on your team.Problem Solver-When trouble hits, they know from past encounters how to work with the right people and resources to reach a solution.I teach special education teachers and related service providers who are past the point of frustration of not knowing how to be a boss learn how to embrace their leadership role, build a successful team and become the teacher they've always dreamed of being. After 26 years as a special educator (and embarrassingly struggling for almost 2 decades to find my leadership voice), I finally realized that the problem didn't lie with who was working within my department, but instead it was ME!My strong will and perfectionist attitude were preventing me from releasing control to allow my staff to take on more responsibilityNow I’ve realized that every hurdle on the path to your goals comes from one of 3 target areas:1.) Communicate-Clearly communicating your expectations will save the universe (or at least your sanity!) BEST piece of advice I've ever received.2.) Trust-Training your sidekicks will provide trust in their ability to do their jobs without having to micromanage every move they make.3.) Mindset- You're going to have to kick that ego to the curb and realize you aren't the only hero in town. Teamwork makes the Dream work!___________________________________________________________________________________When I'm not in the classroom, you'll probably find me with an earpod in my ear either listening to 80's rock or soaking up as much brainpower as I can from a podcast. I'm passionate about growing my business to support as many special education teachers and related service providers as I can with no-fluff, tried & proven tips, tricks and training that help them transform into amazing special educators!Whether you’re a brand new teacher or have been in the trenches for a "few" (wink) years now, I would bet money on the fact that you've felt like our fearless friend here when it comes to dealing with the stress of being a boss to your paraprofessionals. And while any work you do on the three areas above will help your department become tolerable, if you don't optimize them...if you don't meet that kryptonite with full force, those challenges will defeat you again and again. So let me hold that rearview mirror up to those blind spots because once you know what you don't know, you can make some serious moves, my friend.Being a perfectionist means you're dedicated to performing to the best of your ability and will work harder than anyone else to achieve results, but being too over-the-top can lead to destructive behaviors.KUDOS TO YOU, you Organized person you, for celebrating your strengths and facing your weaknesses. The next steps? |Take a good, long look at the systems and procedures you have in place to train your paraprofessionals to determine how you can further optimize your processes.|Analyze your weaknesses more thoroughly and begin the work of learning how to share control and trust your staff.|Develop a plan to boost morale and build a team culture because there's always room for improvement.
