🎉YOU ARE A VISUAL LEARNER
🎉 CONGRATULATIONS!🎉 You Now Hold One Piece Of Key Information To Achieve Higher In School!According to your responses, you are a visual learner! Are you wondering what that actually means?Keep Reading...👇👇👇As a visual learner, you learn best by seeing/visualizing the material in different formats such as: outlines, charts, and graphic organizers. Many times, visual learners can visualize their notes during a test if the notes are taken or reworked creatively. The key is to make different topics stand out in your notes. In addition, there are helpful strategies that can be implemented to utilize this information during school and during study time. Speaking of study time, Do You Know Study Time & Homework Time Are Different Tasks? To be honest, all of the students I have helped over the years usually end up clumping everything into "homework." Most students are not aware that these are two different after-school activities. Homework Time vs. Study Time ⏩ Homework time = simply doing the work the teacher has assigned. ⏩ Study time = is where the magic (deep learning) happens! Study time is where practice and content mastery occurs. Similarly, when a student has football practice to prepare for a football game, cheer practice to learn the cheers, piano practice to master a song, band practice, softball practice... you get the picture. One must practice in order to be good at anything! But, the question is, do you know what to do during the practice/study time to master the content? Do you have a set study/ practice time for school? Most students do not; therefore, most students are not achieving their full learning potential. Back To That In A Moment, Let's Continue With Tips To Help You Right Now....🙌 STUDENT TIPS FOR THE VISUAL LEARNER 🙌✅ DURING CLASS: * Sit up front to see/watch the teacher with minimal distractions.* Notice facial expressions/ cues for important information to write down.* Always take notes during class or ask for handouts.* Print off any slides used in a PowerPoint presentation.* Make your notes easy to read with space in between topics. * Always include the topic and date on your notes. * Highlight with a purpose to focus your attention.* Color code notes by topic or subtopic.* Use symbols in your notes to change things up.* Place a sticky note in corner of your desk to write questions for your teacher over the content you did not understand.* If typing notes, use bold words to note importance, underline, and/or circle key words.* Make sure to use a planner to write everything down in one place so you can visualize your week.✅ DURING STUDY TIME:* Ask yourself, "What can I change in my class notes to make the important information stand out?"* Rework your notes into another format: outline, Cornell system, web/mindmap.* Draw detailed scenes for events.* Circle keywords.* Draw diagrams/ webs in notes.* Color code topics.* Make flashcards* Make your own practice test. Writing the questions and answers allows you to see the information again.* Write a "To Do" list to help you see what tasks need to be accomplished* Close your eyes and visualize the material you are studying. Examples: Create scenes in your mind of events/dates Visualize the outline of the word you are learning to spell Try a few of these strategies and see if they help you.***************************************************************** PARENTS,👇👇👇👇👇👇👇A special note for you... *******************************************👋🏼 Hi there! I am soooo excited that you decided to grab this quiz to determine your child's learning style. This information is extremely beneficial, and it is one of many necessary pieces of information to help your child begin to reach his/her learning potential. As an experienced teacher who has helped many, many students raise their grades by implementing different learning & study strategies, I always ask the student what he/she is struggling with the most in school. Some can identify it immediately; however, most can not.To simplify things, I have them dig into an equation I created for what determines a successful student. Once explained, it helps them gain a better understanding of which part of the equation they are missing. Interestingly enough, the majority of the time it is both. ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ ACADEMIC MASTERY + STUDY SKILLS = SUCCESSFUL STUDENTPlease note, a student can master one certain topic in school and "ace" the homework. However, when a teacher mentions there will be an upcoming test, a student usually falls into one of these student categories: 📚1. The Anxious Student: Many "freak out" moments/ anxiety driven due to being uncertain and fearful of the exam/material 📚2. The Procrastinator Student: Really doesn't know how to prepare; therefore, waits to the last minute and tries to cram. 📚3. The Motivated Student: Wants to do well on the test & tries to prepare ahead of time; however, this student usually does not know the best study strategies for that particular subject and/or material. This student can easily turn into the anxious student.📚4. The Book Smart Student: School comes easy. He/she does very little studying and the grades are right where the student wants them to be. (Most students do not fall in this category). Typically, this type of student is short-lived due to school difficulty increasing.*** You may notice your child fluctuating between the different types of students as the academic journey increases in difficulty. For instance, a fourth grader may have excelled in everything; however, when that same student tackled eighth grade, he/she drowned. (This was my story!) So, I have a QUESTION FOR YOU 👇👇👇👇 Have You Seen Your Kiddo Have A Complete "Freak Out" Moment Or Melt Down Due To Feeling Overwhelmed By School?Usually, "The Anxious Student," "The Procrastinator Student" & "The Motivated Student" will experience these unwanted feelings more than "The Book Smart Student."IT IS NO FUN TO WATCH, RIGHT!?As a parent myself, I have seen the crying, crumpled papers, head down, and giving up, more than once. It's heartbreaking!Unfortunately, at some point, the majority of parents witness this. It's awful to know your child wants to make good grades but does not know how or what to do to make sure he/she ends the grading period with the grade the student set out to achieve. If he/she is not being successful, we (parents) exhaust ourselves (been there, done that🤪) trying to figure out what is hindering him/her and how to address the issue. The success equation makes it cut and dry for us. ACADEMIC MASTERY + STUDY SKILLS = SUCCESSFUL STUDENT 3 Key Questions Parents Need To Ask To Figure Out How To Help: ⬇️⬇️⬇️✏️ 1. Is my child understanding the academic content being taught in class?✏️ 2. Does my child know how to study for a multichapter test or will there be a "freak out" moment at the word(s): pop quiz, test, semester exam... all the dreaded words, right? ✏️ 3. Is my child equipped with and implementing daily, high-achieving, habits to increase productivity during homework and study time?********(Disclaimer: Please note, I am not including a learning disabilities option here since that is not my area of expertise. Typically, the school and/or a parent has insight into this if there is a more serious issue at play.)********Back to the equation, hopefully🤞, your child's teacher is doing a good job teaching the academic content (math, reading, writing, and so forth). However, as a former classroom teacher, I know the majority of teachers simply do not have the time to teach the second part of the equation: study skills. They do not have time to teach students how to study the material or what high-achieving activities to implement in order to help the students reach their full academic potential. 😳 Instead, information and assignments are given, then students are given notice of a test. (Pretty cut and dry.)➡️ So, the task falls to the parents to try and equip our children with critical study skills so that each progressing school year is manageable. Frustrating, Right? In addition, we know that as students progress through the school system, homeschool included here, curriculum and tests become more challenging and if study skills are lacking the student will drown in school. Unfortunately, it will only be a matter of time. This may lead to a downhill spiral of: - A frustrated student - Lower grades - Less school involvement - A lower quality college application - Anxiety - Less social interactions 🎉THE GOOD NEWS IS... IT CAN BE AVOIDED🎉 Ask Yourself, "Does My Child Know"...👇👇👇👇✅ HOW to actively read to keep the brain focused & gain deep comprehension✅ HOW to create an in-depth outline of a chapter✅ HOW to create Cornell Notes✅ HOW to create a mind map/ web✅ HOW to use flashcards 3 layers deep with the stacking method✅ HOW to keep a healthy mindset during a frustrating time✅ HOW to be a "good, savvy student" and all that entails✅ HOW to develop a study plan for upcoming tests & exams✅ What testing strategies should be utilized to understand questions/answers✅ 9 techniques for memorizing✅ Techniques for task management✅ Techniques for time management✅ Understanding homework time vs study time✅ Habits to put in place now to begin building an outstanding high school resume for his/her college application in the future There really is so much to study skills and high-achieving activities!I think we can all agree on....🗝 The skills listed above are critical skills. Every student must know how to incorporate these skills into their learning in order to reach their highest learning potential.👋 Hi There! Let Me Introduce Myself...My name is Kristen Henderson, M.Ed. 👋 I'm the founder of The Savvy Student, LLC and a certified teacher passionate about teaching students high-achieving habits, activities, and study skills in order to help them reach their full learning potential. We all (me too!) expect our kiddos to do well in school; however, as mentioned, most schools are not equipping students with the other half of the success equation, study skills! 🤨 DID YOU KNOW...Even students who are making straight A's sometimes have no idea how to study and prepare for a multichapter exam. (This was a hard realization for me to accept as a mom & teacher!) In addition, the majority of students do not know how to handle the increasing difficulty level of the curriculum as they travel through the school system.SCARY, RIGHT? 😳After watching one of my own children, who was a member of the National Honor Society and at the top of her class, struggle with not knowing how to study for a 4 chapter, duel credit test, I decided it was time to create a program to help students end the frustration during homework/study time.♥️ THE GOOD NEWS IS...THIS IS MY PASSION!Some of the many benefits for both parents (🙌) & students include: 🎯 Less panic/worry moments during studying 🎯 Calmer homework time 🎯 Higher grades 🎯 A confident student 🎯 Establish habits before school becomes harder 🎯 Study skills = higher grades = better college application BY THE WAY... All of these skills become life-long skills. 👏 Not only will your child(ren) use these skills immediately, they will be used in college, trade school, and/or work. To this day, I utilize the skills I learned during a study skills course I took in 8th grade!
