MID-CENTURY MODERN is your personal interior design style!
If your home were a wardrobe it would be Aviator sunglasses, a leather bomber, Levi's jeans in a medium wash, and converse sneakers. Think classic American movie star. If your home were a tv show, it would be Madmen. You know how to make the past feel present. You love retro vibes: bar carts and chaises lounges. But you mix them with contemporary pieces, which gives them a new, exciting flavor...You gravitate toward classic dignified greys, browns and blues on a backdrop of cool whites. You collect meaningful art and artifacts you’ve thoughtfully collected. You’re most comfortable with a mix of clean lines and hints of history. Stacks of books that reflect your interests atop rich dark wood tables, never cluttered though! You love interesting and classic shapes.Your style is all about simplicity, friend ! You've mastered the art of fuss-free ease — faux fur pillows and floral throws just aren't your thing. You prefer neutral materials, earthy tones, and streamlined silhouettes...When redecorating, create visual interest by incorporating a variety of textures. For example, if you have a sleek leather couch, add warmth with a wool blanket in a neutral shade.Mid-century modern (MCM) is an American movement in interior design, architecture, and urban development that was popular from roughly 1945 to 1969, during the United States's post–World War II period. The MCM design aesthetic is modern in style and construction, and is typically characterized by clean, simple lines and honest use of materials. It generally does not include decorative embellishments.Mid-century architecture emphasized creating structures with ample windows and open floor plans, with the intention of opening up interior spaces and bringing the outdoors in. MCM houses utilized then-groundbreaking post and beam architectural design that eliminated bulky support walls in favor of walls seemingly made of glass. Function was as important as form in Mid-century designs, with an emphasis placed on targeting the needs of the average American family.“Luxury is when it seems flawless, when you reach the right balance between all elements. Understated theatricality – that is what my luxury is all about.”― Jean-Louis Deniot“Understanding the person or people living in a home is a far greater need in design than focusing purely on the aesthetics. The home is designed around emotional needs.”― Amanda Talbot, Rethink: The Way You LiveA few ideas to stir your creative juices...Pick paint colors that make you feel good.
