This type of teacher is a great teacher, but they work too hard and have little to show for their life outside of their caseload’s accomplishments. Always driven to succeed, this teacher may be trapped by wanting external validation from their co-workers and admins by working long hours and often agreeing to add more to their plate. This leaves little time for themselves or to spend time doing things that light them up outside of work. The unfortunate end of this path is typically burnout. Summertime Sally is the fun teacher! They live for summer, and all the breaks! Summertime Sally knows that living their life outside of work is the best way to take advantage of the teacher schedule and they don’t stress out about the workload too much. Often the one to leave on time or stay just for the fun stuff, sometimes this archetype wonders if they could be more impactful in the classroom. Their learners seem to be doing fine, but they don’t often write down their lesson plans, so there is no real way to know how much better their learners could be doing. They might get frustrated at the extra demands of paperwork, data, and all of the other tasks that take away from teaching. Burnt Out Bailey is tired of spinning their wheels. It feels like they can never get ahead. They don’t have time to lesson plan, let alone make their lessons creative or motivating. They struggle to find a good work/life balance. Sometimes they find themselves so tired that they end up scrolling social media for “inspiration” during their planning periods.
