THE SEASON OF DEVELOPEMENTDevelopment—“the act or process of developing; growth; progress” I bet if you and I were sitting face-to-face right now, you could share with me a time someone showed you an area in your life, whether personally or professionally, that needed to be developed. Like, learning a new job skill, becoming more organized, or working on your communication. I would guess you would tell me that at first it felt stressful, confusing, or maybe you even got a little angry. And I’d be curious to know how that place in your life actually turned out. Did it make you better or did it make you bitter? A season of development can feel like a punishment. But it’s not. Development is a place of divine preparation for what is coming next. Here are a few things to consider focusing on during a transition season of development:Having clear boundariesTaking practical steps to develop new skills with technology/your job/calling Decide to work hard at not being a people pleaser When you’re given a task, give yourself a deadline and stick to itLearn to recognize places of weakness in you and ask for help Take practical steps to prepare for the future When we are in a space between here and there in our life and the above list is ringing a little too true, most likely we are in a transition season of development. Recognizing this season is one thing; coming through it better than you were before is another. Here’s a verse for you to hold onto during this season of transition: "And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God." - Colossians 1:9-10 (ESV)In Your New Now, you and I will take a look at the life of Moses and see how he worked through his own season of development. You’ll find this portion in section one of the book.
