Your team has some work to do... You are in the right place to get help. Firstly, let's look at the characteristics of a highly effective team. Some characteristics of a highly effective team include:Clear goals and expectations: The team has clear goals and expectations, and all team members understand their role in achieving them.Strong communication: Team members communicate openly and honestly with each other, and are able to effectively share information and ideas.Good teamwork: Team members work well together and support each other, fostering a sense of collaboration and cooperation.Effective conflict management: The team is able to effectively resolve conflicts or differences of opinion in a constructive manner.Strong decision-making skills: The team is able to make decisions efficiently and effectively, considering all relevant information and viewpoints.High level of trust: Team members trust each other and are able to rely on each other to fulfill their responsibilities and commitments.Good time and resource management: The team is able to effectively manage its time and resources, completing tasks and meeting deadlines in a timely manner.Adaptability: The team is able to adapt to change and handle unexpected challenges effectively.High motivation and engagement: Team members are motivated and engaged in their work, and are committed to achieving the team's goals.Embrace of diversity and inclusion: The team values and actively promotes diversity and inclusion, and creates an inclusive environment for all team members.Sounds great, doesn't it? And it's achievable for your team. To help the team become more effective, there are a few simple things that I suggest you focus on. Pick one thing at a time, work on it with the team until it's embedded, then move on to the next thing:Set clear goals: Make sure that all team members understand the goals of the team and how their individual efforts contribute to the team's overall objectives.Establish roles and responsibilities: Make sure that each team member knows what is expected of them and has the resources and support they need to fulfill their responsibilities.Encourage collaboration and cooperation: Encourage team members to work together and support each other. This can be done through activities such as brainstorming sessions and collaborative problem-solving.Foster a positive team culture: Create a positive and inclusive team culture where everyone feels valued and respected. This can be done through activities such as team building exercises and social events.Encourage open and honest communication: Encourage team members to speak up and share their thoughts, ideas, and concerns. Create a safe and respectful environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts and ideas.Practice active listening: Encourage team members to listen attentively to each other and try to understand each other's perspectives. This can be done through techniques such as paraphrasing, asking clarifying questions, and acknowledging what has been said.Provide regular feedback: Provide ongoing feedback on teamwork, both positive and constructive. This can help team members identify areas for improvement and work on becoming better team players. Before We Go Any Further – Let Me Introduce MyselfHi there, I’m Ros Cardinal, founder and Managing Director of Shaping Change.
