You're a Community Catalyst!
YOUR STRENGTHSYou are a Community Catalyst! Leadership for you is a vibrant tapestry of belonging and community building. You love to tend to the needs of all the people on your team, organically building a network of change-makers who rise together. You're a dynamo for inclusion, a lover of community, and a force to be reckoned with. People feel safe and comfortable around you.Your presence is soothing in the midst of conflict."We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community... Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own."--Cesar ChavezWHO TO PARTNER WITHAs you know, you can't create a socially just world on your own. So, who you partner with is everything. Partner with a Visionary Vanguard who can see and foster forward movement and a Courageous Crusader who rocks the boat just enough to make sure you grow towards real, tangible results. Mindful of partnering with other Community Crusaders, because your reciprocal love of inclusion could have you create collectives that are so safe, they don't actually grow.YOUR SHADOW PERSONA: COMPLACENT CARETAKERWe each have a shadow persona: who we become when we allow fear to guide us. In fear, we block social justice and become gatekeepers. The Complacent Caretaker has two kryptonites: shyness and enabling. As a leader who has always excelled by bringing people together, you’re uncomfortable at the helm when others place you in the spotlight. Your shyness hides a low opinion of yourself that makes it hard for you to own your decisions without involving others. This can be a slippery slope to enabling the people you work with: if you don’t think enough of yourself, you will always try to please them to keep them close. When you do, the communities you build become fragile, because real belonging isn’t threatened by authenticity, honesty, and truth. You can become a gatekeeper by fostering complacency with the status quo and people-pleasing instead of authentic, genuine action. Consider that what you call harmony may actually be control.3 Tips to Make the Most out of Being a Community Catalyst1. Own your superpower. Bringing people together is your superpower; don't do it at your own expense. The best way to build your strength and presence is to be impeccable in your self-care. If you burn-out, no one will have the best of you.2. Place yourself in the right role. You may never be completely at ease taking a stand just for yourself, so take time to listen to your community before you make your public stance. Learn to stand for what you believe in, knowing that you may seem alone but know you are not.3. Right Timing. Establish periodic feedback cycles with the communities you serve. You don't need everyone's approval all the time: just priorities that set a longer term agenda. You don't have to dismiss the dissent, but give yourself the time to work with some priorities before shifting too suddenly to others. Many people waste their superpowers at the wrong place, at the wrong time, and with the wrong people.
