You're burned out… here are some tools to help
Ufff! You’re burning out…it’s clear that your tank is dangerously low! If you’re constantly running on fumes and feeling more and more resentful, this is your wake-up call to refill and recharge. If you’re not sure where to start, don’t worry! I’ve got your back with some helpful tips to feel like a human again.Causes of burnout can include:OverworkLack of or poor work-life boundaries People-pleasing and being a chronic ‘YES’ personHaving too many responsibilities piled on your plate (beyond your job description)You’re just over it…plain and simple. Symptoms can include:ExhaustionResentment AnxietyDepression and hopelessnessPhysical protests, like ulcers, hair loss, insomnia,and in extreme cases…memory lossIf this sounds like you, it’s crucial that you make some necessary changes before burnout impacts your mental and physical well-being, if it hasn’t already. First things first, it's time to take a break from, well… everything. That's right, I’m prescribing you a healthy dose of doing absolutely nothing. Grab a cozy blanket, put on your favorite TV show (or just stare at the wall, there’s no judgment), and give yourself the rest you need. Next, It’s time to practice boundaries to prioritize your needs. Examples of healthy boundaries could include: Scheduling breaks into your calendar during the workday to recharge, reminding your people-pleasing self that “no” is a complete sentence, or scheduling a conversation with your manager to let them know you’re tapped outIf you’re experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety or other mental health symptoms, it may be best to reach out to a therapist (if severe symptoms of depression) or a coach (if you're ready to make a job change) for some extra support. When you’re at capacity or have a tendency towards people-pleasing (or both), setting healthy boundaries and prioritizing your needs can sound terrifying!
