Vata
VATA is made up of air and ether.Vata governs within us all the energy of movement, mobility, movement, dynamic fluidity, movements in tissues, muscles, nerve impulses, assimilation of food, circulation of bodily fluids and health of joints and bones. When in balance, vata dominant people express traits such as flexible, spontaneity, adaptable, spiritually connected, intuitive.
However imbalanced, they may experience anxiety, fear, indecision, guilt, hyperactivity.
Vata dominant people spend a lot of time in their heads, thinking, and often seem scattered or somewhere else. They often leave their bodies, and are frequently labeled “space cadets,” “airheads,” or “off in the ethers.” They’re artists, creative types, great with ideas, but often have issues with follow-through and can become cold and shut off to others.
General Guidelines for Vata: 1. Stay hydrated with warm herbal tea throughout the day2. Eat warm, wet, root foods such as sweet potatoes, beets, carrots3. Enjoy warm spices such as cinnamon, cloves, ginger, turmeric4. Take warm baths in the winter and lukewarm in the summer5. Abhyanga (warm oil self-massage) with sesame or almond oil6. Practice breathing down into feet & stomach7. Practice yoga focusing on slow, steady, grounding movements8. Prioritize 1 or 2 "to dos" each day and less multitasking.9. Relax belly, shoulders, neck and jaw10.
